9. Pat McCaffery (Iowa – SF)

One of Iowa’s best high school players, McCaffery was always going to stay in town to play for father Fran and the Hawkeyes. He shined on the high school stage in Iowa City and didn’t really draw much interest from other schools, for obvious reasons.

McCaffery has the height and ability to play both forward positions, though he’s very lean. He moves up and down the court very well, though extra muscle will help him become a bigger post presence. He has the ability to score from the outside with ease, particularly pulling up off the dribble. Adding strength to his game will make him more of a presence on defense; he’s too slim to be effective against stronger forwards and wing players. Regardless, his jump shot is good and he can get to the rim. His physical development will play a large role in his potential ceiling with the Hawkeyes.

Joe Wieskamp and Jordan Bohannon, two fellow Iowa high school studs, are going to do a lot of the damage for this Hawkeyes team, giving McCaffery a great group of role models as he continues to shape his game. Brother Connor has already played a major role for the Hawkeyes and a second McCaffery will only help down the line. Look for Pat to contribute as an outside shooter as he continues to build himself on the defensive side of the ball.
