Big East Basketball: Analyzing the top 2019 recruit for each program
Greg Gantt – Providence Friars
SF | 6-foot-7 | 195 lbs | No. 62 overall
Greg Gantt is clearly one of the top newcomers joining the conference this year. Although not the most physically built, he is an excellent athlete at 6-foot-7 with an outside game that could make him a matchup nightmare right away. On the offensive end of the floor, he projects as a great perimeter player the Friars. He shoots the ball well from distance, can put it on the deck, and finishes through traffic more often than not. When it comes to how he impacts the offensive end of the floor, he is a bit of a swiss army knife with his scoring and court vision.
Defensively, Gantt will likely need to add a bit more muscle before defending power forwards but he should be solid on that end. His athleticism allows him to stay in front of most wings and he uses his size well. His wingspan is above-average as well, making it easier for him to play passing lanes as a potential two-way threat down the road. Gantt is already quite polished as a player but there is room for growth with his frame and athleticism – that is a scary thought.
Providence is dealing with a mixed bag of predictions heading into this coming season. Most do not believe that they are going to be in the top-tier of the conference due to how talented it is this year, but they should be in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament bid. Gantt has the potential to be an immediate impact wing and help them realize their potential as a team.
