Murray State Basketball Head Coach Matt McMahon is heading into next season without All-American Ja Morant. Will the 2019 class provide the next great Murray State point guard?

Murray State Basketball just had their greatest two-year run in program history. A lot of that success is due to the phenom that is Ja Morant. While Ja Morant was at Murray State, the Racers posted a 54-11 record and lost just four games in conference play. Now, the Racers are going to have to move on from the Ja Morant era and they are hoping the 2019 recruiting class continues the great success they have had the last two years.

It’s not just Morant who the Racers will be replacing as their second-leading scorer Leroy Buchanan has graduated as well. The 6’3 guard averaged 13.0 ppg and 4.2 rpg and at times was lethal from three-point range. The good news is that they return just about everyone else, including a pair of double-digit scorers in Tevin Brown and Darnell Cowart.

Murray State is not going to be a destination for 4-star or 5-star athletes, but that doesn’t mean they can’t pull in good talent. Morant was a zero star athlete coming out of high school and is now the 2nd overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. There is some talent here that will prove to be successful in the OVC, and Murray State should remain a favorite to win the OVC.

Let’s get into the five recruits that Coach McMahon and his staff are bringing into Murray next season.
