Brad Calipari spent three years with Kentucky Basketball, learning under his dad Coach John Calipari, and playing against NBA talent every year. Now, after graduating early from Kentucky, he will transfer and play two years at Detroit Mercy.

Brad Calipari committed to Kentucky Basketball as part of the 2016 class, and many believed he only did so due to the lack of options on the Division 1 level. Now, Brad Calipari is taking his talents to Detroit Mercy for the next two seasons to prove that he is worthy of playing at a high level.

Calipari only averaged a career-high 3 minutes per game in 15 appearances his freshman year, dropping to 2.3 minutes per game in 12 appearances his sophomore season. He redshirted his third year.

While Detroit Mercy is not the same as Kentucky basketball, it is easy to believe that the young Calipari will get playing time. Bench players at Kentucky don’t leave to sit on the bench at lesser schools. Touted as a three-point specialist, Brad Calipari is going to get his chance to put up shots at his new school. The announcement was made via Calipari’s Twitter:

John Calipari commented on his son’s new head coach in a press release:

"I’ve coached against Mike [Davis] and know him well. I have great respect for him as a coach and as a leader of young people."

Next. Three-star recruits that will excel from 2019 class. dark

Mike Davis picks up a high-profile name, and probably a few new fans from Big Blue Nation. It wouldn’t be a surprise if some UK blue got into the gym for a few Detroit Mercy games this season.
