9. Indiana shocks No. 1 Kentucky (2011)

John Calipari is known for one thing: getting blue-chip recruits. And heading into the 2011-12 NCAA season, he had one of his best recruiting hauls yet, as it looked like Kentucky would be the favorite to win the national title.

The Wildcats had four five-star incoming freshmen led by Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and they looked nearly untouchable. There was talk about an undefeated season, but Indiana stood in the way of that during non-conference play, as the Hoosiers hosted the undefeated and No. 1-ranked Wildcats.

Indiana trailed by two with 5.6 seconds left on their home floor, but inbounded the ball, took it down to the opposite 3-point line, dished it back to an open man. That’s when Christian Watford became a household name in Bloomington.

Watford ripped the heart out of the Wildcats and drained an open 3-point shot with no time remaining, upsetting the No. 1 team in the land and putting the undefeated Hoosiers on the contender radar during that 2011-12 NCAA season.

The two teams would meet again in the Sweet 16, but Kentucky got the last laugh and ended up winning by 12 on its way to a national title.
