8. Bryce Drew hits wild 3-pointer to down Ole Miss (1998)

Valparaiso was an unknown in the college basketball world back in the late 1990s, but Bryce Drew changed that.

The 13th-seeded Crusaders took on the No. 4 seed Ole Miss Rebels in the first round of the tourney. Valpo wasn’t expected to put up much of a fight, but March Madness struck again.

With 2.5 seconds left in the game, Valparaiso faced an almost unwinnable situation with the ball on the opposite baseline with 90 feet in front of it. Valpo was down 69-67 with one prayer to be answered. A baseball pass into traffic followed by a flip to Drew streaking to the 3-point line turned into a historical make.

All Ole Miss had to do was get a hand on the ball, but the Rebels came inches short on a couple of occasions and that led to an early round disappointment.

Valparaiso ended up making it to the Sweet 16 on a mini Cinderella run.
