21. Texas downs West Virginia (2006)

After a LaMarcus Aldridge free throw to push Texas’ lead to three led to a West Virginia timeout with under 15 seconds left, the Mountaineers pushed the ball up the floor against their future conference foe with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.

The Mountaineers penetrated, couldn’t find an open shot, dished it out to Kevin Pittsnogle, who launched a prayer. It was answered, tying the game at 71-71 with five seconds left. The emotional high that West Virginia fans felt in that moment was soon to be wiped away by Kenton Paulino — a name that surely gives them nightmares to this day.

Texas wasted no time, pushed the ball up the floor and Paulino caught an awkward pass from A.J. Abrams, which he launched from deep 3-point range and drilled as time ran out.

This was one of the wildest sequences in the NCAA Tournament that season and had to be one of the more memorable buzzer-beaters of all time.

The Longhorns would go on to the Elite Eight to face LSU where they fell by just one point.
