Expectations for Evans in 2019-20

Evans seems to have fully recovered from the knee injury scare in the A10 tournament and should be fully recovered now two years removed from his Achilles injuries. If that is the case the Atlantic 10 conference is in big trouble. The Rams already entered the year as one of the favorites with Dayton for the league crown. If Evans stays healthy and returns the player he was while he was at Rice the conference race may be a run away like it was a season ago.

Last year VCU ran away and hid with the regular season conference title. That was enough to secure an at large bid in the NCAA tournament. The Rams had a balanced scoring attack with 4 players averaging over 10 points per game. As was mentioned Evans led the scoring with 13 points per game. Anyone who has followed Evans career will say he is a much better shooter from deep than the 27% he displayed a season ago; he was a career 34% three-point shooter at Rice in the same system. Look for the numbers from deep to improve significantly this year.

The conference is going to be a lot deeper this year as many of the teams have gotten older and have more experienced transfers ready to play for them. Despite all that Evans is still one of the front-runners to win the conference player of the year. The guard is full of confidence and toughness, don’t expect any of that to change with better players in the league.

If anything, that is going to become an even bigger asset. Standing at only 6’2” tall he is never one of the taller players on the court but can get buckets from anywhere on the floor especially when healthy. His premier athleticism and quickness are everything the NBA is looking for, don’t be surprised if your favorite team spends a pick on him in the June NBA draft. Evans is that good and is one of the top 50 players in the entire country.
