Maryland Basketball: Breaking down Terrapins 2019 recruiting class
F Donta Scott – Philadelphia, PA
3-star | 6-foot-6 | 200 pounds | No. 143 overall
With the addition of Mitchell, the Terps could have their new starting center. Now, it’s time for them to build their depth on an already talented roster. Donta Scott is a player who could eventually become a household name in College Park. Scott was a standout at the Imphotep Institute Charter School in Philadelphia. He led the team to back-to-back state championships and won Player of the Year as a junior.
Scott has the potential to be a solid contributor early on in his college career. With his skill set, he has the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Scott is a playmaker — he has a good handle with the ball in his hands and is more than capable of creating his own shot. He is an explosive athlete, who plays above the rim. Surely, Mark Turgeon would love to see Scott catching lobs from Anthony Cowan this season.
On the defensive end of the floor, Scott is great at utilizing his length and wingspan to his advantage. That creates versatility, allowing him to be able to guard multiple wing positions. Coupled with his athletic ability, Scott could also be a rim protector of sorts, even from a wing position. Scott chose Maryland over UConn, Florida and Seton Hall, among others.
