G Hakim Hart – Philadelphia, PA

3-star | 6-foot-5 | 185 pounds | No. 459 overall

The Terps’ 2019 recruiting class is rounded out by a guard. Hakim Hart is the only backcourt player in this year’s class, but that is largely because that is the team’s biggest strength heading into the upcoming season. Hart starred at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia before committing to Maryland. As a senior there, he earned first team All-State honors. Hart also played AAU ball with his fellow Terps commit and Philly native, Donta Scott.

Hart was not one of the most highly-touted recruits in the country, but Mark Turgeon and the Terps are really high on him. Late in his high school career, Hart developed into an all-around scorer and playmaker. He has the ability to score both inside and out. Hart is a gifted slasher and also has a consistent perimeter shot. As with all young players, there is room for improvement on the defensive end, but Hart does have a quick set of hands which could become pesky for opposing players.

It will be interesting to see what kind of role Hart can carve out in his freshman season. The Terps are pretty deep in the backcourt and on the wings, led by Cowan, Morsell, Ayala and Wiggins. A best-case scenario for Hart and the Terps would be for him to act as a spark plug off the bench, who can provide some scoring punch for the second unit.

Hart was lightly recruited, having only received offers from the likes of Bowling Green, Saint Joseph’s and La Salle. Maryland was Hart’s only big-time offer so he may have a chip on his shoulder.
