Marquette Golden Eagles

Marquette basketball suffered a huge blow this offseason with the Hauser Brothers electing to transfer. In addition to affecting the national title hopes for the program in 2019-20, this also sets back to the future a bit too. That is, of course, unless head coach Steve Wojciechowski is able to pull off an incredible recruiting class. Considering the program has already landed a highly-touted prospect and is in strong standing with other top targets in the 2020 class, though, that is definitely a reasonable possibility.

Considering their current roster construction, the Golden Eagles have the potential to land a five-man 2020 recruiting class and they got off to a great start with the commitment of Justin Lewis (No. 74). A 6-foot-7 versatile face-up forward, Lewis is oozing with potential on both ends of the floor and is coming off a great EYBL season. He continues to improve seemingly every time he touches the floor and should be an awesome first piece for what could be a special class.

With the remaining four open scholarships, Marquette is targeting an array of highly-touted prospects. At the top of this list is likely Dawson Garcia (No. 32 overall), one of the top big men in this class. Garcia has been garnering plenty of blueblood attention lately, but it still seems as though the Golden Eagles are in a strong spot. Furthermore, Marquette recently made the top-4 list for Osasere Ighodaro (No. 100), the top-7 for Myles Stute (No. 225), and the top-12 for Nimari Burnett (No. 23). The program will also play host to four-star forward Jalen Bridges (No. 83) for an official visit in early August.

Marquette is also interested in a number of other top prospects. The coaching staff has seemingly built solid relationships and this class could be “elite” if they land some of their top targets. Lewis was a great start and it is time to build on that.
