Wisconsin Basketball: Top five performances of Ethan Happ’s career
3. Michigan @ Wisconsin (January 19, 2019)
The Badgers came into this game against the #2 ranked Michigan Wolverines having lost four of their last five. By nearly every metric, Ethan Happ turned in his finest game of the season, handing the Wolverines their first loss of the season, 64-54.
Happ finished with a stat line of 26 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, but the advanced statistics tell an even more impressive story. Happ had a 45.3% usage rate, and was very efficient on those possessions, going 12-22 from the floor with only one turnover. This is combined with a 60.6% assist rate, meaning when he wasn’t scoring, he was likely dishing to a teammate who could. All encompassing stats such as box plus-minus or my own game prophet-rating agree. Happ had a 33.4 box plus-minus and a 36.8 prophet-rating for this game, both the highest of the season.
The win breathed life back into a team which had been struggling to close out close games. Ultimately, the Badgers went on to be a 5-seed in the NCAA tournament after a strong close to conference play.
