2019-20 Season Outlook

Wisconsin is an interesting spot heading into this season. Even though the Badgers are returning nearly 70% of their total minutes from a team that landed a No. 5 seed, the losses of Ethan Happ and Khalil Iverson to graduation will hurt. While Happ’s departure obviously affects the team as the entire offense ran through him, losing Iverson as an athletic defender, rebounder, and all-around “glue guy” should not be understated.

So even though many of the pieces will be the same this season, the Badgers will look a lot different. The backcourt duo of Trice/Davison will likely be asked to carry the load offensively while Reuvers will need to take another massive step in his development. There are reasons to believe in this team heading into the year, especially after a successful 2018-19 campaign, but there are plenty of weaknesses as well.

The returning roster members posted shot just 40.7% from the field last year and will need to make strides in efficiency while increasing their shooting volume. Additionally, the team’s defense and rebounding will both take a significant step back without Happ and Iverson roaming the court. All in all, it is reasonable to expect that the Badgers will struggle a bit with their new identity this season but should still hover around the bubble as there are some talented returning pieces on the roster.

Another NCAA Tournament bid is certainly possible, but it far from a lock.
