The usual suspects are early projections in Bracketology as top seeds in the 2020 NCAA Tournament. Which of them are most likely to stumble next season?
After grad transfer Kerry Blackshear’s decision to play for Florida, just about all the meaningful impact decisions has occurred that will have a major effect on the 2019-20 NCAA Basketball season. And since it’s August and the season is now a few months away, why not look at some Bracketology?
That’s what our very own Lukas Harkins has done, creating his “way-too-early” field of 68 teams for the 2020 NCAA Tournament. It includes his predictions for which mid-majors will claim the automatic bids for their respective conferences, while also looking the teams who’ll sneak in to the field.
Of course, most of the attention will be on who lands the top teams. Last season, it was Duke, Virginia, Gonzaga and North Carolina who got the four No. 1 overall seeds for the regions. Harkins does have the Blue Devils getting back-to-back top seeds in his projections, along with Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan State. Ironically, this is the quartet that makes up the Champions Classic double-header, where Duke takes on Kansas and Michigan State faces Kentucky.
t makes great sense to have these blue bloods taking the top spots early on, as there’s a strong possibility of them being all ranked in the preseason top-25 of the AP poll. But as we all know, there are always surprises that’ll come during the season. Odds are good that at least one of these teams won’t be a one seed – so which one?
Find out as I break down their chances with this “buy or sell” bracketology edition.
