NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing Caleb Love’s final six
Louisville Cardinals
Head coach Chris Mack has Louisville trending back to the top of the national rankings. In addition to reaching the NCAA Tournament in his first season with the program, Coach Mack has also done an exceptional job on the recruiting trail. As a result, many experts and writers (including myself) have included the Cardinals in their preseason top-10 for this coming season. It is clear that the program is returning to incredible national relevance and Caleb Love could be the point guard of the future for the program.
Louisville is already poised to be a national title contender during this coming season and it seems as though that will still be the case for 2020-21 when Love might start on campus. This has also reportedly been a major part of Louisville’s pitch to the young guard. Love had this to say when asked about his relationship with the program (AZ Central):
"“We talk almost every day. Their approach to me is also putting the ball in my hands. They say they don’t really have a legitimate point guard this year, so they want me to come in next year and also lead the team to a national championship.”"
Unlike some of the other teams in this list, Louisville can pitch Love on the idea of both competing for a national title and running the show as the starting point guard. That definitely has the potential to be a persuasive pitch and I might go as far as to put the Cardinals as the favorites in this recruitment right now. It just seems like a perfect fit between player and program at this point in time.
According to Jake Weingarten, there was at least one member of Louisville’s coaching staff present at each of Love’s games at Peach Jam. The Cardinals are clearly dedicated to potentially landing this commitment and he would be a major addition to their 2020 class.
