The 2019-20 season has yet to start, but the 2020-21 Duke Basketball team is starting to take shape and this is what the team COULD look like.

This week Duke Basketball commit Jalen Johnson has been talked about quite a bit as it was revealed he had been recruiting some other top recruits in the Class of 2020 pretty heavily. Johnson along with point guard Jeremy Roach make Duke the only school with commitments from multiple players ranked in the Top-15.

Not only that, but Johnson and Roach are two of only three players who have announced their decisions at this point in time. Johnson is the top-ranked small forward and ranked 4th overall in the Class of 2020 while Roach is the third ranked point guard and 15th overall.

The question is, which players from the 2019-20 team will still be there once the 2020-21 season rolls around? With the exception of maybe Cassius Stanley, it is likely fair to assume that each of the freshmen from this year’s class will be headed for the NBA, but the big questions are whether Tre Jones and Joey Baker will still be there once their junior years roll around.

Joey Baker won’t be departing Duke for the NBA ahead of the 2020-21 season, but he could be departing Duke en route for another school. Baker played 18 total minutes over the span of 2018-19 and if he doesn’t get the minutes he feels he deserves, we could see him transfer away from Duke.

We have seen several top recruits such as Derryck Thornton, Chase Jeter, Jordan Tucker and others leave Duke simply because they believed they would be utilized better elsewhere (Thornton just wanted to go home.)

But nonetheless, if Baker isn’t given the playing time he believes he deserves, it is very possible we see him leave Duke for another school.

With this being said, let’s take a look at what Duke’s roster could look like at each position for the 2020-21 season.
