Small Forward

Small forward is yet another position where Duke could see a question arise going into the 2020-21 season. That question could reside in whether or not Joey Baker will play his junior season in a Duke uniform.

Jalen Johnson, who is the top-ranked small forward and fourth ranked player overall in the Class of 2020, has already announced his commitment to Duke. So with this in mind, does Baker decide to take his talents elsewhere in hopes of fulfilling his dream of playing in the NBA?

I think ultimately Baker will decide to stay with the Blue Devils. The reason for this is because the Blue Devils don’t have a backup small forward, nor do they have a single power forward for the 2020-21 season yet.

For this reason Baker will see his opportunity to prove his worth and he will do exactly that and he will take a chance with the Blue Devils for the 2020-21 season.

So this being said, Duke is likely full at the small forward position as they already have a top-five recruit and a player in Joey Baker who by then, will have two seasons playing for Duke under his belt.

In addition to Johnson and Baker, one player who is entering the 2019-20 season as a walk-on that you could see take a bigger role in 2020-21 is Keenan Worthington.

Worthington went to Blair Academy in New Jersey for high school and he is a player, who while he won’t see the court likely at all this upcoming season, could get some minutes each game in 2020-21 depending on what happens with Joey Baker.

What I believe the small forward depth chart will look like in 2020-21:

  1. Jalen Johnson
  2. Joey Baker
  3. Keenan Worthington
