Butler basketball is off to a strong start in the 2020 class with three early commits. Which players might be priorities for the last two scholarships?

Butler basketball has never been regarded as a strong recruiting program. Despite the school’s many successes over the past several years, these have largely been the result of elite coaching, player development, and team chemistry. While all of that is certainly fantastic, it is nearly impossible to consistently win in a power conference without strong recruiting. Thankfully, that seems to be what head coach LaVall Jordan is bringing to the table in just his first two years at the helm of the program. Even though it is still early in the 2020 recruiting season, Coach Jordan and Co. have already landed three early commits, two of which rank in the nation’s top-150.

As a result of this hot start, Butler currently ranks sixth in the 2020 team recruiting rankings. This is an astonishing start as the coaching staff clearly looks poised to snag the best recruiting class in program history. For reference, the Dawgs have never landed a recruiting class ranked in the top-45. With that said, though, Butler will not stay in the top-10 for long. This is due to the fact that the bluebloods will eventually rise to the top of the team rankings by the end of this year, but it is important to mention that is a very real chance that Butler’s final collection of talents ranks in the top-30. That would be a substantial recruiting step for the program.

This optimism stems from the fact that although Coach Jordan has already snagged three early commits in this class, he still has (at least) two open scholarships to work with. Additionally, the coaching staff has made some great inroads with a number of other top-150 talents that could become future Dawgs. This recruiting season has certainly been a fun one for Butler fans but it might not be over yet.

So, with a few months remaining until the early signing period, this article will take a look at some of Butler’s top recruiting targets to finish off its 2020 class. Before getting into those, though, it is also important to analyze the program’s early commits to get a sense of what the coaching staff is hoping to build. That might give us a better understanding of who the top priorities will be of the remaining targets.

Let’s dive in.
