Milan Acquaah led WAC Basketball in scoring last season. Will he have an even better 2019-20 campaign and a possible POY coming?
WAC Basketball has been dominated by New Mexico State University for the last 10 years. In fact the Aggies have won 8 of the last 10 Conference titles. The conference seems go through a large amount of attrition, with teams leaving. As the teams leave new schools, usually schools new to Division 1 join the conference, but that just further reinforces New Mexico State’s stranglehold on the league.
This season one of the newcomers to Division 1, The California Baptist Lancers have a chance to give New Mexico State a run at the top of the league. The Lancers are entering their second season as a member of the WAC and they are led by the best player in the league and one of the best guards on the West Coast. The player is junior Milan Acquaah.
The Lancers run through the WAC a season ago started off as good as you could have hoped for. Cal Baptist hosted the Aggies on their home floor in Riverside, California. The Lancers shocked the basketball world and especially Aggie fans when Cal Baptist escaped with a six-point win. The junior guard made his presence felt in that game and let the rest of the WAC know that he and his Lancer teammates were not like many of the other teams fresh to Division 1.
The Lancers were a good team who was going to give many teams they faced fits. Cal Baptist ended their first season with an overall winning record and Acquaah made it known he was one of the best guards in California.
