NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top-10 Ziaire Williams final 7 teams
Arizona Wildcats
After a down season for the team last year, Arizona is back near the top in terms of recruiting. They landed five-star and potential “one and done” players Nico Mannion and wing Josh Green, along with top-50 forward Zeke Nnaji. Sean Miller also landed a few transfers in the offseason, including former McDonald’s All-American Jordan Brown originally from Nevada.
If he and Kentucky transfer guard Jemarl Baker Jr. can become the high-level players many thought they could be out of high school, Williams would be joining a very talented program for the 2020-21 season, even if both Mannion and Green are gone by then.
Arizona already has a wing committed in the 2020 class in Dalen Terry, ranked in the top-40 overall. But he and Williams can play on the court together without issue as the ladder can play some small-ball at the power forward spot. There isn’t much current projected depth in the frontcourt outside of Brown and senior big forward Ira Lee, so Williams may have to play at the four-spot anyways if he picks the Wildcats.
Although Arizona isn’t viewed in the driver’s seat for Williams, they may have to push even harder after knowing that MarJon Beauchamp, another five-star wing prospect elected to forego NCAA Basketball altogether after leaving high school too. The Wildcats were viewed as the favorites to land him had he gone to college. Who knows if that’ll have an effect on how the recruit views this option.
There’s always the potential cloud of the NCAA hanging over the program after the FBI investigation and trial. But few (including myself) think little if any sanctions will come of it. But in the slight chance something happens, Williams will have to be aware just in case.
