Official Visit: Sept. 6

Newly hired head coach Juwan Howard looks poised to immediately secure a top-ranked recruiting class in the nation. Even though he only recently took over as the leader of the program, Coach Howard has made significant progress with many highly-regarded players, including Nimari Burnett. It is also important to mention that even though the program has already secured a backcourt commitment with Zeb Jackson, he is more of a shooting guard and could easily play alongside Burnett. The Wolverines are definitely in the market for a playmaking guard to lead the offense into the new era of the program.

The star guard has also already indicated that he has a great relationship with Michigan’s coaching staff. He had this to say to 247Sports:

"“Juwan Howard, we go way back since I was about eight years old. We are basically like family, him and his sons and his wife we all have a good relationship. I feel like he’s going to be a really good coach at Michigan. It’s just a school and coach that you could trust, and I feel like I can trust him a lot.”"

This relationship could go a long way in potentially landing a commitment. Michigan’s positional need of a point guard in this class could lead the staff to prioritizing Burnett as well. At this point in time, the Wolverines are heavily involved with several prospects as Coach Howard has clearly shown plenty of promise on the recruiting trail. With his connections at the NBA level, it should not be a surprise to see him consistently land top-tier players and Burnett could be the start of a major trend if he commits to the program (Jackson committed under Coach Beilein).

That concludes this look at Nimari Burnett’s final five. He is clearly one of the most talented guards in the 2020 class and will be a valuable addition to whichever school he chooses. There does not seem to be a clear favorite yet but each school has a slightly different pitch and that makes this an interesting recruitment.
