NCAA Basketball: 10 under-the-radar freshmen to watch in 2019-20
7. Tre Jackson, Iowa State PG
The future Cyclone can shoot from basically anywhere on the floor and is confident in his ability to attack anyone off the bounce. He is going to be one of the better guards in the BIG-12 next season due to his skill of being able to care for the ball. When he isn’t taking control of the rock, Jackson can play off the round ball pretty well too. He will have plenty of opportunity at Iowa State to contribute as a combo guard. Jackson plays with passion and brings competitiveness every time he steps on the court.
6. James Bishop, LSU PG/SG
An underrated point guard is on his way to Baton Rouge. The 6’2″ leftie has an effortless range and is able to score anywhere on the court at a high-volume. Bishop just transitioned to playing the point full-time so he is still learning how to get others around him involved and becoming more vocal on the court. Will Wade truly found a gem in the 2019 recruiting class so pay attention to what is going in Louisiana.
5. Drew Timme, Gonzaga PF/C
Timme is an extremely skilled presence down low who will lull you to sleep with his post moves. He is stepping into a Gonzaga program that is already stacked in the frontcourt with Killian Tillie, Filip Petrusev, and others but he will see a decent amount of time on the floor. If he can improve on his ability to step outside the key and add a mid-range shot to his repertoire, Timme will be a player to reckon with. Gonzaga’s frontcourt has been extremely talented the past few years and that shouldn’t be changing for the next few years as long as Timme is on the roster.
