Montana State Basketball will have to replace the production of their all-time leading scorer. Can Harald Frey lead the way for the Bobcats?

The 2019-2020 season is going to be a year of firsts for Montana State Basketball. It is the first year running the program for new head coach Danny Sprinkle. It’s also the first time in four seasons that the Bobcats take the floor without Tyler Hall. Hall is the most prolific scorer in both Big Sky and Montana State school history. He is also one of 69 players in the history of the sport to score over 2,500 points in his college career, with 2,518 total points over his four years in Bozeman.

Sprinkle and the Bobcats do have a nice core of returning players including the senior guard Harald Frey. Any time a team loses its all-time leading scorer and are transitioning to a new coach with a new offense, it is going to be an uphill climb. With Frey still in the mix and his ability to lead the team and impact the game on both ends of the floor. It is a nice building block for a program.

The Bobcats rival in the Big Sky, the Montana Grizzlies have dominated the conference for the last handful of years, and Northern Colorado has not been far behind. Montana State does not have near the tradition that their rivals do. In fact, the Bobcats had not have a winning season since 2009 and have not made the NCAA tournament since 1995-1996. The new Bobcats coach was a member of the last NCAA tournament team and earned Big Sky Freshman of the Year. As he returns to Bozeman, Coach Sprinkle has one thing on his mind, turn around the programs fortunes and get them back to the NCAA tournament. Frey is going to be a great jumping-off point, even if the guard is a senior.
