Oklahoma Sooners

After this upcoming season, it’ll be a completely new crop of players for the Sooners. They bring in seven newcomers from the 2019 recruiting class and are in play, with the hopes of landing a quality 2020 group. And with the top prospect in the state strongly considering Oklahoma, what they do off the court will be just as important as the win-loss record.

Along with the history of development of head coach Lon Kruger, the “Trae Young” effect also is a factor. Seeing what a former five-star undersized guard can so with the ball in his hands and eventually become a top-3 NBA Draft pick is a great selling point for a recruit who watched it up close in Tulsa.

With incoming freshmen guard De’Vion Harmon set to have a potentially big season for Oklahoma, he and Thompson could form the best backcourt in the Big 12. And playing for the hometown program is also something that makes the Sooners as formidable a contender for his services. He already officially visited the program and is considered one of, if not the favorite to land Thompson. If being the clear go-to guy for a team is at the top of his checklist, it could be enough for Oklahoma to land the five-star guard away from the Jayhawks for the biggest recruiting coup since…. Trae Young himself.
