Big Ten Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2019-20 season
By Adam Childs
10. Iowa
Iowa is a tricky team to predict this year. They still have some talent in Joe Wieskamp and Luka Garza, but leading scorer Tyler Cook elected to head to the NBA and Isaiah Moss who was a good role player transferred. Add in that Jordan Bohannon is out indefinitely with a hip injury and it makes for a lot of question marks in Iowa City.
Wieskamp and Garza are some of the best scorers in the Big Ten, but they will need help and Bohannon may return but that is still uncertain of when if at all.
The other thing the Hawkeyes need to do is learn how to play defense. They did it better at times last year, but it was still their downfall throughout the year. They did win some big games as they blew out Michigan at home and beat a healthy Oregon team early in the year, but they had too many games they had to escape against inferior opponents last year.
They still have tournament potential but with so many question marks they fall to the bottom of the rankings. Fran McCaffrey could be coaching for his job this year and based on some of his actions on and off the court he probably has a very short leash.
