After missing out on the Big Dance last season, Wichita State Basketball is flying under the radar. Can they get back to top-tier status in the AAC this time around?

Leading up to the start of the 2019-2020 college basketball season I plan to put out a piece addressing one team each week that I think has the potential to exceed their expectations. A team that maybe hasn’t gotten a lot of love from the national media in the preseason, a team that seems to be flying under the radar or feel that they’re being disrespected. Make no mistake these teams have the tools necessary to make a run this year and make some noise. These teams have the potential to make a statement and it’s time they got some attention. To kick off the Sleeper Watch series our first team breakdown will be Wichita State Basketball.

Wichita State is a team that has received very little recognition this offseason with the talk of the AAC being directed towards Memphis with their new recruiting class and towards Cincinnati and new head coach John Brannen. People are high on Houston and intrigued by UConn as they prepare for their last campaign in the conference but it seems that all the talk this summer has excluded the Shockers.

Wichita missed out on a chance to go dancing last season but would still play some postseason ball in the NIT where they would fall in the semi-finals. Wichita was a team that struggled to score the ball last season and with their only two guys averaging double figures graduating, there’s a lot to figure out on the offensive end. Defensively the Shockers are usually pretty sound. We’ll dive into the roster a little bit, take a look at the Shockers Schedule and see what kind of hand Greg Marshall has for this upcoming season and why Wichita State is someone who can make a run.
