The fifth edition of the NCAA Basketball Mid-Major notebook will look at Mikeal Brown-Jones’ final two choices. As well as the Nevada Wolfpack’s recent additions plus other mid-major basketball news.

2020 3-star NCAA Basketball forward Mikeal Brown-Jones recently announced that his college decision is down to Temple and VCU. Which means the former Penn State commit is no longer considering St. Joseph’s, New Mexico, and South Florida.Brown-Jones is long and athletic who can score inside as well as outside. He is a good rebounder, particularly on the offensive end, and projects as a staunch wing defender.

The Philadelphia (PA) native has seen his stock rise dramatically in 247 rankings over the past few weeks. Brown-Jones was ranked as the 289th best player by 247Sports Composite (Sept. 15) but is now up to 220th on its list. He is also is rated 204th in the country by 247Sports which is up 71 spots from his mid-September ranking. Rivals does not have him ranked nationally, although he is No. 46 in their power forward rankings.

VCU is now the overwhelming favorite to obtain Brown-Jones’ services. However, Brown-Jones’ goal is to play in the NBA and former NBA player Aaron McKie now leads temple.

Prediction: I give a slight edge (53%-48%) to VCU as if Brown-Jones was going to commit to Temple, he would of likely already done so.

Bol Akot receives offer

2020 prospect Bol Akot received an offer from Robert Morris on Sept. 3. It is the seventh overall offer that the Manchester (NH) native has received. Saint Peters, Towson, and Siena also have offered him since May 1.

Akot’s game is predicated on speed and getting to the basket. The 6-2 point guard demonstrated that he can run a team and knock down perimeter jumpers this summer. Both of which were both major questions, according to D.C. Blue Devils coach T.J. Thompson. He is also a fantastic distributor and possesses a strong mid-range game.

Rutgers and St. Bonaventure have been recruiting Akot for the past few years and have reportedly been pushing hard for his services. Akot has official visits set-up at Fairfield and Towson and is also hearing from New Mexico and Weber State among others.
