NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Vanderbilt lands 3-star forward Myles Stute

Vanderbilt coach Jerry Stackhouse nabbed his first commitment from the NCAA Basketball class of 2020 in Myles Stute, who revealed his pledge to the Commodores via twitter on Sept. 8.

Stute is rated as a three-star prospect by both 247Sports and Rivals. He is a consensus top 225 player in the class, as 247Sports has him ranked at No. 225. Meanwhile, 247Sports Composite has the Washington (D.C.) native at No. 163 in the nation and Rivals lists him at No. 135.

The 6-6 forward made his commitment after visiting Vandy’s campus on Sept. 6. He chose Vanderbilt over Marquette, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Clemson, Texas A&M, and Florida.

Stute spoke to Corey Evans of Rivals about why he chose to play for Stackhouse and the Commodores.

"“It’s truly the best fit for me on and off the court. The academic piece at Vandy is perfect, and to be coached on the court by someone who’s played at my position in the NBA for 18 years is the chance of a lifetime. I picked Vanderbilt because from the moment I stepped on campus it felt like home, and I’m extremely proud to say that I’m a Commodore!”"

The athletic Stute is versatile and possesses a high motor. He is an excellent shooter who can score inside and out.  Stute, who can play both the 3 and 4, is capable of defending multiple positions.

Vanderbilt is expected to have one more scholarship available for next season as the Commodores have just 12 players on scholarship this season. Senior Clevon Brown is the only player that is slated to depart following the season. However, Stackhouse could decide to gut the roster and bring in his own players. The backcourt appears to be the area that the Commodores would like to improve as six of their 13 offers are to players that are capable of playing the 1 or 2.

Alyn Breed commits to Providence

2020 combo guard Alyn Breed verbally committed to Providence on Sept. 7. The 6-3 guard is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports. He also held offers from DePaul, LIU, UAB, La Salle, Appalachain State, Hofstra, and Penn.

Breed brings solid athleticism and the ability to make shots to the Friars, per 247Sports Brian Snow.  He is also considered a staunch defender.

The Powder Springs, Georgia, native had a solid AAU Season with AOT, averaging 10.3 points a game on the Nike tour. However, he upped his production to 15 points and shot over 50% from the field during the Peach Jam. Breed scored 22 points against the Albany City Rocks and 18 against the Boston Amateur Basketball Club in pool play at the Peach Jam. But he poured in 32 points in a game against Team Takeover of Washington, D.C in the elimination phase of the event.

Breed, who was formerly a member of the class of 2019, will attend IMG Academy as a post-graduate. He is the Friars’ first commitment from the class of 2020. Coach Ed Cooley must replace six seniors this upcoming offseason, so the Friars expect to have at least five more scholarships available for the 2020-21 campaign.

Other recruiting tidbits

• Cam Hayes, a consensus top-30 2021 recruit, is reclassifying to the class of 2020,  according to Stockrisers’ Jake Weingarten. The 6-1 point guard was on an official visit to N.C. State this weekend. He is slated to visit Tennessee (Sept. 13) officially, Louisville (Sept. 21), and Maryland (Sept. 27). NC Stae and Louisville are the leaders for his services.
