Georgetown Basketball enters the third season under head coach Patrick Ewing with NCAA Tournament aspirations. Will they live up to expectations?

Georgetown Basketball enters the 2019-20 season with legitimate expectations for the first time in several years, and that’s a good thing for NCAA basketball.

They’re coming off a 19-14 season and an NIT berth in Patrick Ewing’s second season at the helm, results that, while nothing to write home about given this program’s rich basketball history and tradition, have sped up the rebuilding process.

The backcourt of James Akinjo and McClung looks extremely promising and the Hoyas found several quality role players that return, headlined by fellow freshman Josh LeBlanc. Throw in NC State transfer Omer Yurtseven in the middle (who is now available after sitting out a year) and a solid recruiting class in which three players are 6-10 or taller, and Ewing has a team that should be able to accomplish some things.

Now, Georgetown has to continue to build on its own success, and they’ll have to do so with something of a new identity. Jessie Govan, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder each of the last two years, graduated and left a sizable hole in production that was to be filled.

But with seven players returning from last season’s rotation, and the addition of Yurtseven, the Hoyas aren’t expecting much drop-off.

What will the 2019-20 season hold for them? Find out in our full team preview.
