Kentucky Basketball lands another top prospect this week in five-star guard Terrence Clarke. Are the Wildcats back as the best recruiting program in college hoops?

As we head into the 2019-20 college basketball season, Kentucky Basketball has been busy on the recruiting trail, setting themselves up well for the future. Earlier this week, the Wildcats landed top-35 forward prospect Lance Ware. He joins five-star guard BJ Boston and top-50 wing  Cam’Ron Fletcher to give them the current No. 1 overall 2020 class And just now, John Calipari and the coaching staff landed one of the top players for the 2021 class in Terrence Clarke.

Ranked No. 3 overall according to 247sportsComposite, Clarke is a 6’7 wing who can play multiple positions. He’s an outstanding two-way athlete who can score in a variety of ways. All the measurables are already there and he still won’t be in college until the 2021-22 season. Clarke is the kind of talent Calipari loves to work with on the wings and is a definite “one and done” prospect. There’s a strong possibility that he’ll reclassify to the 2020 class, pairing him up with Boston for the following season. Considering that there are four 6’6-6’7 wings already committed to play for this upcoming season, it’ll be interesting to see how the logjam works itself out if Clarke joins the Wildcats one year from now.

Kentucky Basketball beat out teams such as UCLA, Texas Tech, Memphis, and rival Duke for Clarke’s services. The recruiting win over the Blue Devils makes this an even sweeter pickup for Wildcat fans, who have for the past few years watch Coach Krzyzewski get the No. 1 overall recruiting classes that featured Player of the Year candidates such as Marvin Bagley III and Zion Williamson. The Wildcats themselves have been right up there but they haven’t had the same kind of game-changers to get them over the hump back to the Final Four.

With three commits already for the 2020 class, expect Kentucky Basketball to focus on adding another dominant ball-handler and another top-tier frontcourt prospect. Names to keep an eye on in the coming weeks include Scottie Barnes, Jalen Green and Joshua Christopher on the perimeter, while big men Isaiah Todd, Greg Brown and Makur Maker are still in play for the SEC powerhouse.

After what Memphis did this offseason and programs such as Texas Tech and Florida making big splashes, it’s harder than ever to land top-tier talent in NCAA Basketball. But Coach Calipari and Kentucky Basketball are always up to the task and should remain one of the favorites to land any talent they’re seriously after.
