Purdue Basketball: Breaking down Boilermakers 2019-20 rotation
By Toby Brown
Shooting Guard
Minutes Breakdown: Jahaad Proctor (22), Sasha Stefanovic (13), Brandon Newman (5)
Moving on to the shooting guard position it is reasonable to see Jahaad Proctor get the nod to start. Being a grad transfer, he may not have played in the Big Ten before but he has played in a lot of college basketball games. He has proved himself to be a very good scorer. According to purduesports.com he averaged 19.4 points as well 3.2 assists. I see him being able to become a great scorer for the Boilermakers this year. He is the lone Senior on the team therefore he will need to be the leader of the team. I believe at the beginning of the year we will see him sharing minutes with a couple younger players.
Purdue easily has its next shooting guard coming up in Sasha Stefanovic. He reminds me a lot of Dakota Mathias in the way he plays on the offense side of the ball. Sasha was only asked to play around 13 minutes last year and I do believe that will be the same case going into this season early on. Depending on how he plays coming off the bench will determine how the rest of the season goes for him.
Lastly there is another great freshman recruit coming in to play at the guard position in Brandon Newman. He was a top 5 SG in the state of Indiana according to 247sports.com. Newman is a guy that can come in and make a big difference. in the program. However, with how deep Purdue is at the guard position I do believe it will be a year or two before he starts to see some serious minutes for the Boilermakers.
