Conference Outlook

The VCU Rams are probably the favorites to win the conference heading into this season but the A-10 could be looking at potentially three maybe even four bids for this upcoming NCAA tournament. The A-10 will be tough but for the most part, it looks like a three-horse race between VCU, Davidson, and Dayton.

VCU made the tournament last year but had to do so as an at large team after Saint Louis came out of what seemed like nowhere to win the A-10 tournament. VCU took both games against Dayton last season in what were both two very tightly contested affairs. VCU returns almost everyone from a team that went 16-2 in conference play making it hard to pick against the Rams. Dayton will see VCU January 14th in Dayton and then February 18th in Richmond. Both of those games will be must-watch for A-10 basketball fans and will have big ramifications for who gets the one seed in the A-10 tournament.

Davidson seems to be another team likely to be a strong challenger for the A-10 this year, they’re a squad that also brings back a lot of their talent. Dayton defeated Davidson last season by a point at their place in their lone meeting. Dayton will meet Davidson just once on February 28th at home, this is one of the last games of the A-10 conference schedule and could have big implications in the seedings for the A-10.

Duquesne, Saint Bonaventure, and Rhode Island are in that next tier of the A-10 trying to steal a bid and will be challenging games for the Flyers. Dayton will meet Duquesne twice, Rhode Island twice, and the Bonnies once. Dayton will need to take care of business if they want to earn that number one seed for the A-10 tournament.
