Jordan Tucker looks poised to take on a major role for Butler basketball this season. How might he live up to those high expectations?

Butler basketball is closing in on starting a new season and Jordan Tucker might be the team’s most important player. The former top-100 recruit and Duke transfer showed flashes of brilliance over the course of last season and should now be ready to take on a significant role with the Dawgs. Even though he has only played in 26 total college games (without injury), Tucker is already a junior in standing and will be ready to take the next step with his career.

Kamar Baldwin is already locked and loaded to be Butler’s best player this season but he will need a running mate on the offensive end of the floor. Jordan Tucker is easily the best candidate to fill that role with his 6-foot-7 frame, athleticism, and smooth shot from distance. The wing did not lack in confidence last season but struggled with consistency while finding his footing at the college level.

After gaining eligibility at midseason, Tucker managed to post 9.7 points (.358/.370/.826), 4.1 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 22.2 minutes per game. He immediately showcased his 3-point shooting ability with the team but scuffled around the rim. That should change in this coming campaign.

Now that he has some playing experience under his belt, Tucker should be poised for a breakout season as a go-to scorer for head coach LaVall Jordan. Additionally, it is reasonable to expect that he will make strides on the defensive end of the floor as well, especially when you consider Butler’s personnel improvements in the frontcourt compared to last year.

Butler is going to need Jordan Tucker to be a star this season. Will he be able to answer the call? Let’s dive into his game a bit more and analyze his potential impact for the 2019-20 season in Hinkle Fieldhouse.

(This is the sixth part of an offseason series that will involve breaking down each member of the Butler basketball roster for this coming season. Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks.)
