Georgia Basketball: Bulldogs get pledge from four-star PF Josh Taylor
By Neil Adler
The Georgia basketball team has landed a commitment from four-star power forward Josh Taylor, who is reclassifying into the 2020 class.
The Georgia basketball squad is kicking off its class of 2020 on an extremely positive note, as the Bulldogs on Wednesday secured the services of four-star power forward Josh Taylor. While he’s rated as the No. 58 prospect overall by Top247 in the class of 2021, hoops recruiting analyst Brian Snow of 247Sports reported in this article that the 6-foot-8 Taylor plans to move into the 2020 class.
Taylor, who revealed his collegiate destination via Twitter, is also slotted at No. 72 nationally by Rivals.com, although that’s for the 2021 class. Snow writes that Taylor should stay at a four-star label when he’s inserted into the class of 2020.
Currently attending Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga., Taylor appears to have held more than a dozen scholarship offers, according to a review of several recruiting Web sites. Among the other schools that extended to him are Georgia Tech, Houston, LSU, Nebraska, Penn State, St. John’s, TCU, Tennessee, 2019 NCAA Tournament finalist Texas Tech and Virginia Tech.
As to why he selected Georgia, Taylor had this to say in the 247Sport story. “Coach Tom Crean and Coach Chad Dollar were the deciding factors in me choosing UGA. Along with the fact that my family and friends and all of the people who supported me will be able to see me play.”
Snow’s piece adds that “Taylor is someone with significant potential. He has shown the ability to stretch the floor, and also has good athleticism and length which allows him to be versatile on both ends of the court.”
It seems that the inaugural pick-up for Crean & Co. in the Bulldogs’ 2020 recruiting cycle is a strong one, and it could absolutely assist in Georgia obtaining further commitments from that class in the near future. The bar is set pretty darn high, as the Bulldogs have welcomed in a top-10 class of 2019, headlined by five-star shooting guard Anthony Edwards.
