UConn Basketball welcomes the first member of their 2020 recruiting class with the addition of the athletic winger from Albany, New York Andre Jackson.

Four Star winger Andre Jackson announced earlier Wednesday that he would be playing his college ball for Dan Hurley and UConn Basketball. Jackson is the first commit in what should be a relatively small recruiting class for UConn in 2020. Jackson hails from Albany New York and has been a guy on a lot of teams radar including UConn rival, Syracuse.

Jackson took a visit to UConn at the end of September after being visited by Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim a few weeks prior. After that visit from Boeheim, many top analysts felt that he was a lock to join the Orange but rumors started to emerge that he was leaning towards UConn after his cancellation of a scheduled visit to the University of Iowa just days after his official at Uconn.

UConn currently only has one shooting guard on the roster next season after senior Christian Vitale graduates, the other guard is the talented freshman James Bouknight who looks like he could be a star in the making. With only one scholarship player at the SF spot, it should leave Andre Jackson with a chance to get good minutes as soon as he arrives on campus, something that probably weighed heavily on his decision-making

Jackson is an extremely athletic guard who likes to fly around the court and push the ball, he has a natural ability to get to the basket. Jackson will be a valuable asset on the defensive side of the ball, something UConn desperately needs to improve on from last season, with his size and speed he’ll be able to guard just about anyone on the court.  Jackson is an impressive athlete and should be an immediate contributor on both sides of the ball, he does a great job of crashing the boards and grabbing rebounds, he has a nose for the ball.

Andre Jackson found himself on the Nike EYBL Circuit putting up an impressive 14.8 points and 7 rebounds per game over the course of 19 games this summer. Jackson shot a dismal 19% from the three-point line something I’m sure that will be worked on before and even when he arrives on campus, adding a descent three-ball to his arsenal would be game-changing.

UConn head coach Dan Hurley continues to bring good talent to Storrs and UConn are setting up to be very dangerous at the start of next season. Jackson will join the Huskies just in time for their return to the Big East conference. There’s a lot of untapped potential with Jackson and he’s someone UConn fans should be very excited for, he’ll be a part of a great young core as UConn basketball looks to return to the powerhouse program they once were under Jim Calhoun.
