Penn State – Lamar Stevens

Chances of winning POY – Good

Stevens may be the best player in the country that nobody talks about. Schools in the Big Ten know all about him, but outside of that, most people have probably never even heard of him.

As a freshman, he averaged 12.2 points per game 34% from outside. He followed that up his sophomore year by averaging just over 15 points per game and received All-Big Ten honors and then won the most outstanding player for the postseason NIT.

Last year he flirted with averaging 20 points for the year. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions weren’t very good last year and he missed out of really being recognized for what he did last year.

But this year they look to be better and are a trendy pick to make a leap in the Big Ten. The only way they make that leap is if Stevens has a great year. And if that happens he has a very good chance to win POY. He should definitely be in the conversation but he has the talent and he will put up the numbers needed to win POY.

Of course on the flip side, if Penn State disappoints once again, Stevens could continue to be the best player nobody knows. Some Big Ten fans may not want him to be up at the top but the conference definitely wants to showcase one of their best players.
