Nebraska Basketball: 2019-20 season preview for Cornhuskers

Expectations for 2019-20
Zero, say it with me; zero expectations this season for Nebraska. They were picked by almost every publication to be near the bottom of the league in the standings. With the uncertainty of the Roster and given the level of the Big Ten heading into this season it makes sense. Nebraska has only, way to go and that is up. Like any new coach it may take a few seasons for Hoiberg to build his program the way he wants to. All the success the former Chicago Bulls head coach had at Iowa State, was due to his style of play. At that point basketball had to catch up to him.
It now seems more and more teams are using the Hoiberg offensive philosophy. The coach likes to spread the floor, run and shoot and score as much as possible. While it is an offense that requires a lot of threes be shot and made. The offense also opens driving lanes and allows for uncontested cuts to the basket. He has the players he needs now to make this offense work, but can Nebraska make enough shots? That is a question that has plagued the program for many years. With the team currently being so undersized how will they rebound and protect the rim? All of these are questions that will soon be answered.
College Basketball has adjusted to what Hoiberg introduced at Iowa State and now the offense that Hoiberg runs is common. It is a good thing Nebraska has the brainchild of the offense and a coach who was known for building a program back to prominence like he did at Iowa State.
Nebraska has a chance to catch fire and win a few games in the league no one expects them to or win more games than everyone expects them to. If they can do that, potentially they can climb out of the cellar and finish near the 8-11 range in the league. The Huskers will need a year for any hope of a postseason tournament.
