WCC Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2019-20 season
By Andy Patton
WCC Basketball has too often been a one-bid conference in the NCAA tournament, but a trio of talented teams could change that in 2019-20.
WCC Basketball has long been known as the conference Gonzaga beats up on. They are often cited as the reason the Zags didn’t do well in the NCAA tournament, the reason they shouldn’t be ranked as high as they are, etc. etc.
However, in recent years, things have slowly started to change out West.
St. Mary’s has always been good, but they have started to turn the corner into a legitimate NCAA tournament at-large bid, which further strengthens the conference.
The addition of BYU hasn’t quite helped as much as many thought it would, but they have an extremely solid program this year and have a real chance to challenge the big dogs up top for the tournament crown.
The rest of the conference is still spinning their wheels, but an uber-athletic Pepperdine team and a veteran San Francisco squad could make some noise as well.
Here is a look at the power rankings for the West Coast Conference heading into the 2019-2020 season. The top may not be a surprise, but there are some changes in the middle.
