Gonzaga basketball is one of the most consistently great programs in the country. How will the Bulldogs respond in 2019-20 after losing four starters?
Head coach Mark Few has turned Gonzaga basketball into a powerhouse over the past several years. Although a member of a mid-major conference, the Bulldogs are truly one of the best programs in the entire nation year in and year out. Fans across the country can always count on Gonzaga to compete at an elite level and the same should be the case for the 2019-20 season.
Of course, the program does not need to make up for some serious losses. Rui Hachimura, Brandon Clarke, Josh Perkins, and Zach Norvell, and Jeremy Jones all departed this offseason either due to graduation or the NBA Draft and they will be difficult to replace.
Thankfully, Coach Few was able to secure the No. 13 overall recruiting class in the country and his freshmen should all compete for big-time minutes right away. The Bulldogs also return a quartet of solid rotation pieces while bringing in two graduate transfer guards as well. As a result, there is plenty of talent on Gonzaga’s roster and it is reasonable to assume that the team will still safely be among the top-25 teams in the country this year.
St. Mary’s and BYU both project as strong teams this season but it will be difficult for either to catch Gonzaga at the top of the West Coast Conference. The Bulldogs deal with high expectations every single year and this campaign will be no different. Coach Few has plenty of talent and it will be interesting to see how this young roster performs.
So, without any further ado, let’s dive a bit deeper into Gonzaga’s roster and analyze how the team will perform during the 2019-20 season. This preview will break down the program’s major contributors, key storylines to follow, the strength of schedule, and overall outlook on the year.
