Scott Drew has been successful at Baylor Basketball, with a chance that 2019-20 could be his best. Here is a look at the Bears for the upcoming season.

Scott Drew’s Baylor Basketball team went 20-14 and 10-8 in the Big 12 last season and made the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in his tenure, knocking off Syracuse in the first round before falling to No. 1 Gonzaga. In those eight trips to the Big Dance Baylor has been successful, reaching two Elite Eights and two other Sweet Sixteens.

Drew has won 313 games over the course of his 16 years with the Bears, the most of any coach in program history, and by a wide margin, besting Bill Henderson by 112 wins. But, as with a lot of coaches that have been with a program for a while, there was a rough patch with Drew, going just 36-69 in his first four seasons after taking over for Dave Bliss. The powers that be stuck with Drew and it has certainly paid off. This season the group from Waco seemed poised to head back to the tournament, and are seen by everyone as a preseason Top 25 team.

Last season may have been Drew’s best coaching job to date, after losing star Tristan Clark to an injury in January, he changed to more of a small ball style and it worked, winning 10 of 14 after the injury. Clark returns this season and got to shake off some of the rust during the team’s trip to Italy.

Clark was able to play limited minutes in two of the Bears’ four wins, and a healthy Clark returning along with players that were successful in a style that was not your typical Baylor style has people in Waco excited for 2019-20.
