Michigan Basketball Recruiting: Impact of Isaiah Todd’s commitment
Where does Todd fit in the rotation?
Isaiah Todd will join the Wolverines starting in the 2020-21 season and he should be a critical piece of the puzzle right away. Considering his overall skill and athleticism, Todd projects as an immediate starter at the college level. The Wolverines will be losing Jon Teske (at least) in the frontcourt after this coming season so there will be minutes available.
Todd will be the one to slide in and find significant playing time from the opening tip. Considering Juwan Howard is yet to coach a game for the Wolverines, his schemes are not yet available to analyze. As a result, projecting Todd’s fit in Michigan’s system is impossible. Nonetheless, fans can be sure that he will be a featured piece on both ends of the floor.
Todd’s versatility as a face-up forward oozing with athleticism will make him a matchup nightmare right away. It is reasonable to assume that Michigan’s offense will run through him on several occasions during his freshman season. There are simply not many defenders in the country that can match his size and athleticism, especially when they have to pick him up on the perimeter.
The key for Todd moving forward will be improving his decision-making and passing. He is an excellent ball-handler for his size but takes some ill-advised shots on occasion and is not the best playmaker. Todd will draw a ton of defensive attention at the collegiate level and developing his vision, creating, and decision-making could really take him to the next level.
