NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Impact of five-star Devin Askew going to Kentucky
Talented five-star guard Devin Askew has made the decision to play for Kentucky. But the impact has yet to be determined throughout NCAA Basketball.
A big decision occurred from the class of 2021 NCAA Basketball recruiting class, with five-star guard Devin Askew electing to play for the Kentucky Wildcats. Currently ranked No. 10 overall according to 247sportsComposite, the 6’3 playmaker is the latest high school sensation to play for head coach John Calipari.
Askew has risen up the recruiting ranks after a spectacular AAU session this past Spring, displaying his passing ability to go along with an already proven scoring prowess. The Mater Dei (California) standout checks all the boxes when it comes to point guards and is considered to be one of, if not the best overall playmaker in the 2021 class. The high-level shooting combined with the playmaking makes Askew a potential “one and done” NBA Draft talent.
The five-star prospect picked Kentucky over Louisville, Memphis and Arizona from his final four. His recent official visit to Lexington must’ve had a major impact on his decision-making at the end, ultimately running with the momentum for the Wildcats.
There has been a recent rash of big-time decisions regarding five-star prospects, with Kentucky along with Duke and North Carolina gaining commitments. But Askew and the upcoming impact has to also do with a potential reclassification to join the 2020 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. If that happens, that changes things for not only Kentucky but also other talented recruits.
So how does this set of news impact Kentucky and the others who missed out on Askew? Here’s a look at what this decision means for NCAA Basketball in general.
