The ACC is the strongest conference in the sport and Louisville Basketball sare a national title contender under coach Chris Mack. Here’s a look at the 2019-20 Cardinals.

If Louisville Basketball wanted to be sure their next coach would make people forget about a program mired in turmoil and scandal, after one year it sure looks like they have hit a home run with Chris Mack. In his first season, the Cardinals finished 20-14, a record that could’ve been even better as six of those 14 losses came by five points or less. They earned a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament but fell to Minnesota in the first round.

Even though the year may not have ended the way Mack and the Cardinals would have hoped, the 2019-20 season could be a big one for Louisville. The Cardinals are a consensus top-10 and according to some a top-five preseason team, that can not only win the ACC but are a legitimate national title contender.

There are many reasons why Louisville is thought of so highly coming into the season, they have a solid foundation returning to them and weren’t hurt by defections to the NBA and bring in a recruiting class that is ranked as the third-best class in the ACC, behind only the usual suspects, Duke and North Carolina, and is ranked 12th nationally by 247Sports.

The Chris Mack era got off to a roaring start and the train just kept rolling on the recruiting trail this summer preparing for this season. A final stop in Atlanta in April will make the end of the Rick Pitino era an even more distant memory for the Cardinals’ faithful.
