NCAA Basketball: How the latest rule changes will impact 2019-20 season
By Hunter Moore
Uniforms
Here come some changes that will have literally no impact on how the game is played but some fans might notice these subtle differences. In terms of player uniforms, the player’s last names on the back of jerseys can be arched as long as the first and last letter are on the same horizontal plane. This will help players with long last names (Sandro Mamukelashvili) by allowing their names to be more legible. Another change that affects player uniforms is, how leg tights must be worn under uniforms. If a player decides to wear leg tights they must be two-legged and the same length in order to have uniformity.
Players aren’t the only ones who will have a new look as referees will have an update to their attire for the 2019-2020 season. The NCAA cites that they are trying to modernize the officiating shirt by adding a Raglan style shoulder. If you watched any exhibition basketball over the last few weeks you have probably noticed the switch where the referee shirts now are solid black on the sleeves.
It will be interesting to see throughout the season which rules will have the biggest impact. While I’ll be most concerned with the rules that help to reduce the amount of complaining by commentators about instant replay.
