Key #3: Free Throw Shooting

Pitt shot 58.3% from the free throw line in their exhibition against Slippery Rock. Since this is an ACC game to start out the season for the Panthers, they are going to need to do much better from the line. Florida State shot 90% in their exhibition against Columbus State and 65% in their exhibition game against Barry.

The Seminoles only took 10 free throw attempts against Columbus State, but knocking down 90% is tremendous for anyone. If the Seminoles get to the line, they will knock down their free throws. If Pitt gets to the line, it is around a 50/50 chance that the ball goes through the hoop, so the Panthers are going to need to really lock-in and a deep breath before they shoot the ball at the line.

Next. Takeaways from Champions Classic. dark

Most teams average anywhere from 15-20 free throws a game, so more than that. When the game is crunch time, free throws are so important to knockdown. Whoever is able to get to the free throw line for Pitt will need to knock them done. You can have a bad free throw percentage in an exhibition, but when it’s an ACC foe and that game can determine seeding in the ACC tournament, they are going to need to score those points at the line.
