Two highly-touted prospects square off

This game not only provides us with another good early-season tilt between two good teams, something that is becoming more of a growing trend in the sport, it also gives a national audience their first look at a couple of star-studded freshmen for their respective teams. Although the Gators’ Scottie Lewis and Florida State’s Patrick Williams likely won’t be going head-to-head, that doesn’t mean we can’t be treated to a few, “anything you can do, I can do better” moments in this one.

The 6-5 Lewis hails from New Jersey and was a top-10 recruit according to ESPN and was a McDonald’s All-American. He exhibits tremendous athleticism out of the backcourt with an innate ability to get to the rim and finish, but Lewis doesn’t only concentrate on his offense, he comes to Florida with the reputation of being a tenacious defender with a no-quit attitude, he will harass opposing guards all night long.

Williams is a 6-8 forward North Carolina who arrived Tallahassee as a top-25 recruit nationally, who is a smart player with a solid mid-range offensive game and a developing long-distance shot. His 6-8 frame allows him to get his shot off over smaller defenders and his 225lb. build allows him to get inside and bang the glass as well. Lewis had the better opening night with nine points and five rebounds in their win over North Florida, and Williams had just five points in the Seminoles’ loss.

By season’s end these two will be household names and could very well be off to the next level after just one season, so getting the opportunity to see them against each other, early in the season will be a treat.
