Arkansas Basketball: Will the Razorbacks land the “Fab 5” for 2020 class?
6’7 220 PF Chris Moore – West Memphis, AR
(247Sports 4-star, national #96)
Chris Moore is an absolute animal on the floor. At 6’7, Moore plays like he is 6’10 and is a force around the rim that has continuously improving perimeter skills. Built like a defensive end with a relentless motor and elite athleticism, he would be a very welcome addition to an Arkansas team that currently has a thin front-line.
Eric Musselman has put on a full-court press with Moore, attempting to make up ground in a short amount of time to lure him to The Hill. It is an all out battle between three teams right now: Arkansas, Memphis, and Auburn.
Most pundits believe that Moore, who is announcing his commitment on November 15th, is truly down to Arkansas and Memphis. While in most cases you would assume the “home-state school” would have an edge, Memphis is a quick drive across the river for Moore who has a strong bond with coach Penny Hardaway.
Musselman’s NBA acumen and in-depth analytical approach made a strong impression on Moore during his official visit to Arkansas, but for the last several weeks it felt that Memphis held a slight edge in securing his services.
However, given the recent accusation of improper benefits scandal facing Penny and the Tigers it is reasonable to assume that the gap may be closing. Another factor is the Moore was teammates with current commit Davonte Davis as well as heavy target Jaylin Williams with Woodz Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit over the summer. It stands to reason that there would be mutual interest in that group continuing their relationship and playing together in college.
When it is all said and done, Arkansas’s chances of landing Chris Moore are probably the lowest of the remaining three. However, this late in the game I would still call this a coin flip decision that could truly go either way without shocking anyone on Friday.
