On Wednesday night, Syracuse Basketball host Colgate as they look to bounce back from their defeat to Virginia. What is the Orange going to have to focus on?

Last Wednesday saw Syracuse Basketball struggle vividly on the offensive end of the floor, as they were no match for the Virginia Cavaliers. Although we saw plenty of capability from Syracuse, on the defensive end, there’s so much to work on for Jim Boeheim’s side in order to put this side in contention for an NCAA Tournament spot, next year.

Going up against Virginia in their first regular-season game back after winning the national title was always going to be a tough task. However, holding them to 48-points should give this side a big boost, and belief that they can definitely go toe-to-toe with the elite college sides if they get their offense game into a rhythm. They showed this last year, too, with the upset of Duke at Cameron Indoor.

It’s safe to say it’s not going to be quite like last year, with the losses of plenty of key players, Tyus Battle in particular, but there’s plenty of great players in this side who’ll help the Orange compete this season. Elijah Hughes will have to be the main man, and everyone else will have to play to the best of their abilities to give this Orange side a chance to make a bit of noise this year.

This Wednesday, the Orange go up against a much more maintainable side. The Colgate Raiders, of the Patriot League, who have started the season with a 1-1 record. The Raiders opened their season with a five-point win over NJIT, last week, before falling to Clemson on Sunday night. The Raiders are one of the stronger sides in their conference, and they’ll go into Wednesday evening’s game ready to give the Orange a competitive match-up. Let’s see what the Orange have to do in order to get their first win of the season.
