Butler basketball has started its 2019-20 campaign strong with a 3-0 record. What will it take to continue that success against Wofford?

Butler basketball is off to an excellent start to its 2019-20 season. After missing the NCAA Tournament last season, head coach LaVall Jordan appears to be pushing to prove that was an anomaly. Through the first three contests of this campaign, the Dawgs have seemed to turn a significant corner under their third-year head coach. The team is moving the ball effectively offensively, dominating on the defensive end, and showcasing versatility across all positions.

Despite dealing with significant depth issues due to injury/illness over the first two weeks, the Dawgs are sitting at 3-0. They are fresh off a hard-fought home victory over Minnesota that displayed the team’s toughness and showcased Kamar Baldwin‘s abilities as one of the top players in the entire country. While there have definitely been some areas for improvement so far this season, fans have to be excited about the way that the team has played.

Butler appears to be on a mission to prove people wrong this season and Wofford represents their next challenge as a team. Wofford is fresh off reaching the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed last season and projects as a strong team once again this season despite suffering many key offseason departures. The Terriers are always a difficult team to gameplan for considering their complex offensive schemes and ability to light it up from three. They are also coming off a disappointing home loss to William & Mary in their last game and could be out for revenge.

Wofford might only be ranked at No. 121 in the current KenPom rankings but this is not a game that Butler (ranked at No. 26) cannot take lightly. In order for the Dawgs to reach the NCAA Tournament this season, they need to show continued strides and hunger in each game. There is always room for improvement and it will be interesting to see what the coaching staff draws up for this matchup.

So, with tip-off approaching on Nov. 16, let’s take a deeper dive with some opponent intel followed by a breakdown of Butler’s potential keys to success against Wofford (and some extra notes).
