8. Maryland currently has two players in the top 5 leading all Big Ten players in steals
The Terrapins have two players in the top 5 for steals per game for the Big Ten. Aaron Wiggins is averaging 3 steals per game for Maryland and Darryl Morsell is averaging 2 steals per game for the Terrapins. Maryland being a top 10 ranked team is clearly emphasizing defense this season and they look to use their defense as a catapult to challenge Michigan State and Ohio State for the Big Ten title.
9. The Big Ten has two new coaches and 12 returning coaches this season
Tom Izzo has been the head coach at Michigan State since 1995. The second most tenured head coach in the Big Ten is Purdue’s Matt Painter who has been the Boilermakers coach since 2005. However, Michigan’s Juwan Howard and Nebraska’s Fred Hoiberg are at their respected universities as 1st-year head coaches at their Big Ten schools. The Big Ten collectively have the 2nd best-proven group of coaches next to the ACC.
10. Michigan State prior to their game at Seton Hall did something special to honor Cassius Winston’s late brother who tragically passed away on November 9th
Winston wrote a touch warning Instagram message for his brother who passed away.
The program wanted to honor the late memory of Zachary Winston and decided that on their jersey’s they put a patch that says Smoothie which was Zachary’s nickname. The Spartans played inspired against Seton Hall and defeated them on their home floor.
